James Odom was raised on a farm in Oklahoma and learned from an early age to be grateful for the blessings of being an American. His parents loved him, taught him the value of hard work, and, most importantly, led him to faith in Christ. James felt a calling to public service as a young man and has pursued that throughout his life. He has a bachelor’s degree with majors in religion and economics from Baylor University (1994), a master’s degree in foreign policy from Georgetown University (1996), and a doctorate in political science, again from Baylor (2017). He worked for U.S. Senator John Ashcroft on foreign policy, national defense, and veterans’ issues (1997-99) and for Texas State Senator Bryan Hughes on education and finance policy (2017-2025). He has run for public office (U.S. Congress, 4th District of Oklahoma, 2000) and has managed government relations for Baylor University (2002-2007). James has authored a book on America’s public indebtedness (Public Debt and the Common Good, Routledge 2019) and has learned the risks and rewards of self-employment by running a small business. He is a certified mediator.
These experiences have given James an understanding of the public and private sectors of our country, an appreciation for how they work together to foster a free society, and a grasp of the constitutional framework under which our country has prospered. He is running for President to preserve that constitutional framework and defend the continuing vitality of America’s founding ideals in a rapidly changing world.
